I squatted her out.

Brent officially started school the Thursday before Memorial Day Weekend. Guess how happy he was to take a first day of school picture? :)
But it's still a cute picture.

On Friday we dinked around the house for most of the day. We are almost completely unpacked and moved in, but we still had a few things to do. We went to the Naval Hospital (that may or may not be what it is actually called, but I'm going with it) and had a lesson on how his health insurance works for Pheebs and me. On Saturday we woke up and tried to get to the Farmer's Market downtown kind of early before it got too hot and all the good stuff was gone. We made it there by 9 and it was already 94 degrees out. The Farmers market is only three blocks long and it's mostly in the shade so it was ok to do one quick sweep. We got some great vegetables and Phoebe was a hit with the old ladies walking around. I had another totally strange conversation with a complete stranger while buying cucumbers. It started out normal enough with the standard questions of how old and how big was she when she was born. Then Phoebe started to make some noises and the lady asked if I was nursing her (not too weird, but hold on) and I said, Yes all the time. To which she replied, well then flip it out. {insert awkward laugh here} She went on to ask if I squatted her out or if I had a c-section. Now remember I am in a very public place talking to a total stranger. I had no choice but to tell the lady I squatted her out. Thankfully she walked away after gathering that information. She took it to a whole new level of weirdness at the cucumber booth. After that we made a brief stop at the beach on base. It is incredibly beautiful. The sand is so white and the water is so blue- a picture would really help prove my point here, but I didn't bring the camera. dangit.  Saturday night Brent found this restaurant a couple minutes away from our house that sells crawfish by the pound. Having no real idea what he was doing he ordered 10 pounds of crawfish. Here's a small sample of the giant bag he came home with.
Ten pounds, turns out is probably enough to feed 4 people. I like the idea of eating crawfish but when push came to shove I couldn't do it. They look like bugs to me. So I was no help in putting a dent in the ten pounds.
I felt like I was a spectator on Fear Factor watching him eat bugs. Too gross for me to touch, but when the meat is pulled out from the bug shell it is actually pretty good.

Enough about us, right? Phoebe has been doing super good. She has been making more grunts and groan noises which are pretty darn cute. She still smiles a lot. One morning something was cracking her up and I tried to get a picture of her grin. Here are my attempts.

 I (kind of) got it!

The swing of neglect in full force with Flash babysitting.

We have been slowly unpacking. Everything I do is slow now. It is hard to get much done when I'm constantly feeding the beast Phoebe. She has changed a lot in the almost 5 weeks she's been here. Brace yourself for a ton of pictures of her being adorable.

One month old in these pictures.

She has been sleeping around three hours. Occasionally she'll go four hours, and I love that. Eating like a champ. I haven't been able to store any extra milk. She eats everything I pump too. That could end up being a problem whenever I go back to work, but we'll deal with that then. Right now she is a happy baby and that's all that matters.
A couple of weeks ago we upgraded to size 1 diapers. Probably should have done it sooner but I guess we were in denial, plus we're pretty stinkin new at this so how should we know.  The good news is that we have far fewer wardrobe changes as a result of an overflow of some sort. However, on the new diapers there is no color changing line if the diaper is wet. Like we are automatically supposed to know?!? And the darn things are so high tech (minus the line) that even when we touch the diaper we can't tell if its wet or not. Unless it's poo, no problems telling there.
In case you were wondering it is super hot here. I might not go outside until we are back in Alaska. We have a washer and dryer in the garage and even stepping momentarily into the un air conditioned garage is more than I want to do. Brent and I were talking about a jogging stroller. But my concern was with my present level f fitness (non-existent)  combined with the heat (inferno level). I don't think I'll be able to run fast enough to keep Phoebe cool. Plus, she's not able to call 911 when I pass out from heat stroke yet.  We decided to hold off on that idea.
